About Event
Starting at 1pm, join us for the Offers and Needs Market workshop, where we'll teach you how to exchange without money and introduce you to timebanking. Brunch will be available during the event. At 3pm, you’ll have time to explore the clothing swap and co-op market, featuring items sold directly by worker-owners, with proceeds going to them.
Our event, in collaboration with the Organization for Human Rights Democracy, brings together alternative practices and models within the solidarity economy. What is a solidarity economy? It’s a system where resources are shared democratically, and collective ownership is encouraged. It’s a global movement focused on creating a just and sustainable economy that prioritizes people and the planet over endless profit. Is it something new? Not at all—Black, brown, and working-class communities have long found ways to share wealth and resources.
This event is a space to experience and engage with these practices firsthand. From cooperative businesses, where workers own and run the company, to timebanking, where resources are exchanged through time instead of money, to a clothing swap, where you can trade what you no longer need for something you do—all these examples demonstrate how resources can be shared and democratically governed.
Our mutual aid fund has prioritized Black, Indigenous, and People of Color because we believe that this support is greatly needed in metro-Atlanta. Our time bank will also be BIPOC focused and centered. We hope to be able to see everyone at the event and the timebank specifically is limited to BIPOC.
